Lyrics to our school song:
A. Z. Kelley was a man Who had to take a stand Believing that all children were the same To school they all should go Together as they grow Becoming future leaders of the land
Now we’re here at A. Z. Kelley Elementary School Keeping the dream of equality Alive at the green and blue (repeat) |
About the Song The A. Z. Kelley Elementary School Alma Mater was written by Marilyn Moon (a fifth grade teacher) and her husband, Fletcher, shortly after the school opened in the fall of 2006. Mrs. Moon said, “I feel that every school should have a school song. I still remember my elementary and high school alma maters; these songs make you feel good about your school, which is also called school spirit.”
Mr. and Mrs. Moon have written three school songs. One was for a school in East Orange, NJ and two for schools in Nashville. Mrs. Moon says that this one holds a special place in her heart, since her father and brothers went to Rev. Kelley’s barber shop on weekends. She also acknowledges and appreciates the assistance from Mr. Michael Currie (music teacher at A. Z. Kelley) for transposing and teaching the song to the entire school.
“It gives me goose bumps each time I hear the students sing it,” says Mrs. Moon. |
