Four MNPS schools awarded by USDA!
Congratulations to DuPont Hadley Middle, Brick Church Middle, Hull-Jackson Montessori, and Fall-Hamilton Enhanced Option! Wednesday, Sept. 22, USDA Food and Nutrition Southeast Regional Administrator Don Arnette recognized the four Metro schools, the cafeteria managers and school principals for meeting the USDA’s HealthierUS School Challenge. The schools received a Bronze Award.

“I’m pleased to recognize these four Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for this achievement,” Arnette said. “A HealthierUS School award is one of the highest honors a school nutrition program can achieve and reflects a strong commitment to provide students with additional healthy food options throughout the school campus, and to emphasize nutrition education and physical activity in the school curriculum.”

The USDA issued a challenge to schools nation-wide to make changes to their school’s nutritional environment, improve the quality of the foods served, and provide students with more healthy eating choices.

“It is an honor to be recognized by USDA,” said Jay Nelson, director of Food Services for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. “We believe in serving school children quality meals. With the support of the administrators, teachers, cafeteria managers and staff, physical education specialists, counselors, parent volunteers and all other team players, these schools exemplify teaching healthy lifestyles.”
