For the third year in a row, the Hillsboro High School “We the People” team won the state championship title! As a result of their win, the 18-member team attended the national competition in Washington D.C, where they put on a wonderful performance. According to the group's sponsor Seth Swihart, "the
students did an especially nice job connecting complex constitutional
issues to their every day lives, which is really the goal of the program
in the first place."
In addition to the competition the team met with Congressman Cooper and Senators Alexander and Corker. They toured
the U.S. Capitol and saw many other sights in D.C.
The We the People competition is a government and civics competition which requires students to make a presentation and engage in a debate with a panel of judges on a range of constitutional issues.
