Educators are Nashville’s ASSET
That’s why we’ve joined hands to develop and implement Nashville’s Achieving Student Success through Effective Teaching (ASSET). This comprehensive plan—anchored in effective teachers and leaders—is designed to transform MNPS’s human capital system.
Together, we believe teachers have the single greatest impact on student success in the classroom. We also believe that teaching is one of the most noble and challenging professions. Effective teachers are essential. Quality leaders are also a necessity. And both require a high-functioning, integrated and aligned human capital system. Through Nashville’s ASSET, we seek to change how we prepare, recruit, hire and support, develop and evaluate, and retain and reward effective teachers and principals.
Nashville’s ASSET is critical to achieving MNPS’s vision:
Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools will provide every student with the foundation of knowledge, skills and character necessary to excel in higher education, work and life.
We embrace and value a diverse student population and community. Different perspectives and backgrounds form the cornerstone of our strong public education system.
To achieve this vision, “… we must provide an excellent teacher in every class, for every student, every year.”
In advancing Nashville’s ASSET, we’ve established a series of focused and cross-connecting committees and work teams which are charged with making “actionable” recommendations and implementation plans for addressing key components of the human capital system. Work teams will specifically focus on teacher preparation, principal and teacher effectiveness, induction, support, professional development, retention, and differentiated roles and responsibilities.
We invite you to explore these web pages and learn about the components that make up Nashville's ASSET. Through the ASSET process, we seek to maintain open communications on all fronts. Thus, we want to hear from you about our approach and aims. We encourage you to submit a comment to express your point of view. We want to engage you as an ASSET.
Thank you for joining us in this exciting endeavor.
Sincerely,
